Jehovah Jireh – The Lord will Provide!

Jehovah Jireh is one of the many names of God! It’s the name that means “The LORD will provide.” This name was used by Abraham in Genesis 22:14 to describe the place where God provided the sacrifice so he wouldn’t have to sacrifice his son Isaac. Abraham called the place Jehovah Jireh, “The Lord will Provide.” Although the entire episode was a foreshadowing of the substitution God would provide for our salvation, it also demonstrated the... Lord’s eternal grace and continual provision. Jehovah Jireh doesn’t mean “The LORD did Provide,” but “The LORD will Provide.” All of us who look to the Lord for provision should find comfort in this name because he is our source and everyone else and everything else are mere resources. This name illustrates that He makes a way when there seems to be no way. I appeal to this name more than any other name because I am so needy. The name Jehovah Jireh should not only remind us of a past event but it’s a name that anticipates a future action.
