Give Me Neither Riches Nor Poverty!

Prov. 30:8-9 says “…GIVE ME ONLY MY DAILY BREAD SO THAT I DON’T BECOME OVERFED AND DENY YOU…OR THAT I DON’T BECOME POOR AND STEAL...! The wisdom of this prayer is the desire to live a life pleasing to God without getting tripped-up by the extremes of possessions, whether abundance or lack. It’s a prayer that asks God to give only what one’s maturity and skill can handle. Prosperity not handled correctly can make one rely on his wealth rather than on God. On the other hand, poverty not handled well can lead to a strong temptation to dishonesty which dishonors God.

Conclusion! Paul tells us in Philippians 4:12, “I’ve learned by now to be quite content in whatever my circumstances. I’m just as happy with little as with much, with much as with little.” Our focus should be on our heavenly reward, which is eternal, while at the same time giving glory to God by being joyful and content where He has placed us!
